As an Industrial Design Manager at Milwaukee Tool, you will oversee a staff of industrial designers who focus on product development within a dedicated business category. You will coach and develop their team's professional skills driving thought leadership in all facets of product development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Review and guide all aspects of design to align with the Milwaukee product portfolio, including form, aesthetics, materials, construction, mechanisms, color, surface finish and manufacturing processes.

Coach team through collaboration with cross functional team activities. Provide oversight to the conceptualization and development of new products by influencing the physical and psychological interactions between users and products. Support activities leading to milestone approvals while assuring the highest level of design performance are achieved.

Guide the design team's navigation through stagegate processes, delivering design solutions to organizational leadership and cross functional partners. Oversee the output designers to ensure accuracy and consistency in accordance with the rest of the team.

Present progress of design projects and initiatives in regular report outs to executive leadership. Represent the design team in reviews to leadership across the business.

Collaborate with other ID managers to create, maintain and enforce guiding standards for the visual brand language, including color finish material, application of brands, product graphics and form language.

Directly responsible for the performance management of a team of designers. Conduct performance reviews, set performance objectives and plan career development with direct reports.

Collaborate with human resources during the recruiting of new designers, overseeing qualifications, portfolio screening and interviewing activities.

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in industrial design.

Minimum of 12 years professional experience designing in a product development environment including experience managing or mentoring designers. Preference for experience with consumer products or durable goods.

Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal. Experience presenting design to non-designers.

Demonstration of professional leadership and demeanor through a portfolio of product design and strategic thinking.

Experience leading teams and individuals through complex design phases and processes.

Domestic and international travel as required.
