Job Description

The Principal Engineer's primary role uses highly developed engineering expertise to identify strategies and validate new technology to be integrated into future new products leveraging project management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Chief technical resource for researching new technology from University, Corporate and organic Intellectual Property
  • Engineering leader for the evaluating and testing of new materials and technology
  • Leading the development of new test procedures and equipment where needed
  • Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations
  • Developing and overseeing experimental plan on pilot equipment
  • Managing process scale-up, new product commercialization, or technology transfer
  • Performing root cause analysis and apply systematic thinking
  • Providing clear engineering information to Project Leaders and the Global Engineering teams facilitating trade off decisions
  • Independently developing, writing and analyzing testing reports in internal laboratory
  • Provide clear and concise updates to Sr. Management
  • Reviewing intellectual property and technical publications to identify areas of interest
  • Manage external relationships with University research teams, start-up companies, professional societies & associations and external testing experts
  • Execute a wide variety of calculations, strategies and software aided analyses in the following areas:
    • Provide modeling and measurement expertise necessary to guide new product and technology development
    • Develop strategies to develop and influence industry accepted test standards
    • Build simulations which provide insight into system level performance of customer applications
    • Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation / mentorship to others
    • Position may include direct reports, must be able to train, coach and increase our organizational capacity

Job Requirements

  • Bachler of Science in Material Science and Engineering
  • Master of Science with concentration in Textile, Polymer, Composite, or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in engineering/science/laboratory environment with Personal Protection Equipment
  • Experience in research and development with soft goods, natural and synthetic materials that are flexible including but not limited to textiles, foams, rubber, filters and other
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility or pilot plant desired
  • Proficient in reviewing IP and technical papers
  • Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials
  • International experience, particularly in Asia is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% (travel includes Domestic and International)
