Job Description
The Principle Design Engineer's primary role uses highly developed engineering expertise and project management abilities to contribute to the design and development of new products and support of existing products within the department while coaching engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to take multiple products from concept through mass production and provide engineering deliverables in all New Product Development (NPD) phases
- Mechanical engineering leader and technical resource on broad complexity PPE NPD projects
- Including, but not limited to component and assembly integration, material selection, packaging, hazard analysis, regulatory, intellectual property, and standards compliance
- Supervise a team of design engineers and designer(s)
- Provide clear engineering information to global cross-functional teams
- Facilitate trade-off discussions and provide clear and concise updates to Sr. Management
- Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations
- Understand integration of textiles, foams, rubbers, and filtration into mechanical systems
- Execute/facilitate a variety of calculations and software aided analyses in the following areas:
- Mechanical stress analysis / FEA
- Tolerance stack analyses
- Material selection
- Design for Manufacturing / Mold Flow
- Acoustics / Sound & Vibration
- CFD
- Serve as category expert and provide consultation, training and mentorship to others
- Position will include direct reports
- Create and review detail drawings and/or CAD models of components and subassemblies
- Conduct tool teardowns and analyze competitive tool designs
- Perform root cause analysis and apply systematic thinking
- Collaboratively develop, write and analyze test reports from internal/external labs
- Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within area of scope in the project with minimal guidance to test design extremes
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters preferred
- 5+ years of design experience in the PPE field preferred
- 3+ years of supervisory experience
- Proficient in 3D CAD -- ProE, Solidworks, NX, or similar as well as FEA
- Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials
- Ability to travel up to 15% (travel includes Domestic and International)
- High interest in tools/PPE of the construction trades
