Job Description

The Technology Applications Engineer will be a member of the Advanced Engineering and Technology (AET) team in the Power Tool Accessories business unit at Milwaukee Tool. This team is the trusted research and knowledge bank that accelerates and delivers technological disruptive innovation. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for providing a "Masters Student Mentality" approach to various new technology areas. These technology areas are explored without constraints of current product design or manufacturing limitations to empower future product development.

Our ideal candidate would be a hands-on self-starter, who can take ownership of a technology and/or application from early research and development through its entire life cycle. This candidate would be viewed as a subject matter expert in their areas of focus and will be leveraged for support in transitioning this technology through a phase gate process into the Advanced and New Product Development teams. Individual and/or department wide projects may include:
* Lead and perform early research and investigations into new technologies (Additive Manufacturing, materials science/development, AI/ML, etc.), industry trends, processes, and materials via start-up companies, university research, and department technology strategy.
* Rapidly execute a series of Proof of Concepts to demonstrate the viability of an emerging technology/application in relevant environments.
* Support in transitioning emerging technologies through a phase gate process into the Concept and New Product Development teams.
* Pursue new technology and partners through tradeshows, seminars, courses, training, etc.
 
Core attributes:
* Capable of working with additive manufacturing technologies, joining system technologies (laser, resistance, brazing, etc.), prototyping and testing equipment 
* Can work in a team environment, collaborating closely with internal and external partners cross-functionally
* Diverse engineering background and ability to learn about new technologies
* Work as part of a technology development team and be responsible for research, designing and integrating new technologies into proof of concepts and machine builds
* Inquisitive nature, and the ability to apply an R&D mindset to new technologies
* Hands-on approach and aptitude to support physical testing and potential implementations
 
Required skills:
* Technology Experience:
o Critical: AM Mfg. systems (LPBF, LMD, FDM, Binder Jet, etc.), DFAM, pre/post printing processes, joining systems (laser, resistance, brazing, etc.)
o Nice to have/trainable: Advanced material development, laser welding experience, vision system experience

* Mechanical Experience:
o Critical: Strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on mentality
o Nice to have/trainable: machining, welding, fabrication, and fitting
* New equipment fabrication, assembly, testing, commissioning, and support experience
* Create, perform, and support development of test & measurement tools/processes
* NX / SolidWorks / Ansys experience
* Troubleshooting / debugging / Problem Solving
* Experience in manufacturing / operations processes a plus
 
Desired skills or the aptitude to acquire:
* Possess the ability to create part and assembly drawings for new developments/components
o Generates all required documentation related to the project
* Perform data analysis in support of test design, Design of Experiments (DOE), and test and measurement
* Applies knowledge of mathematical formulas, statistics, and physical laws and uses conventional and computerized work aids to make calculations
* Able to perform report-out sessions to present new knowledge and technology to peers and cross-functional groups
* Support and partner with our legal department in developing and protecting our technology
 
Qualifications, Knowledge, Ability and Experience:
* BS Engineering and/or Equivalent Professional Experience (2-6 year Minimum)
* Additive manufacturing experience in design, material development and evaluation
* Must be proficient in NX, SolidWorks, Ansys and MSOffice
* Project Management experience and collaborative team mindset
* Overall proficient presentation skills to a diverse audience ranging from peers to executive teams
* Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
* Ability to travel up to 10% (Domestic and International)
