Job Description

The Senior Reliability Engineer's primary duties are to utilize advanced level engineering skills to contribute to the development and qualification of power tool products. Throughout a product's development cycle, this position requires strong cross-functional communication skills and analytical expertise to help launch new and exciting solutions that meet user needs.

 

Product Development Time Allocation

  • Lead teams for new product designs and engineering changes with respect to product reliability, user requirements and warranty information
  • Participate in User Need Research to identify "critical to quality" (CtQ) requirements on mechanical and electrical design features
  • Support of Advanced Engineering activities at targeted CtQ needs
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Marketing to define the products' specifications leading in all aspect of reliability, quality and testing
  • Use designed experiment techniques to improve development efforts
  • Capture warranty, social media, service, and other related product data to identify areas for improvement
  • Lead Risk Assessments (Design and Manufacturing) for NPD projects during the product development cycle
  • Interact with US and Asian suppliers that participate with product development

 

Testing & Analysis

  • Create test plans to validate mass production product and process changes to minimize risk
  • Develop test procedures to quantify critical to quality user needs identified with marketing and engineering team
  • Work with marketing and field users to define usage profiles and life needs
  • Lead implementation of test plans/procedures in both domestic and international test labs, ensuring best practices are utilized
  • Utilize tool tear down analyses to explore accelerated life testing
  • Analyze, draw conclusions, report and present product information utilizing statistical techniques such as Weibull analysis, reliability distributions and matrices
  • Capture best practices when for role when supporting projects to drive consistency across department and better train new engineers
  • Utilize statistical techniques such as Weibull or Minitab to draw conclusions on test data
  • Draw concise, logical, written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis and present to cross functional teams
  • Ensure timely failure reporting and lead root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventative actions (FRACA)

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in mechanical, industrial, electrical or related engineering field and two years of experience in related reliability and quality field. Experience must include:
  • New product commercialization processes emphasizing design, manufacturing, quality, test or reliability activities
  • Training in quality engineering fundamentals
  • Leading a primary function within a project team
  • Design of Experiments, life data analysis and other related statistical tools and software, such as Minitab, Reliasoft
  • Domestic (2%) and international (8%) travel required.
